The first energy center, called Muladhara, is our body's most primal and fundamental chakra. Located at the end of the spine, it regulates the energy associated with instinct, survival, and safety. For our modern age, this translates to emotional and financial security.
When your first chakra is balanced, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and peace when you think about things like money, safety and shelter. You will also feel connected to people around you and to your human experience.
Signs of an imbalanced first chakra include feelings of mistrust and disconnection from other people or from nature, dysfunctional relationships with your family, obsession about money, tendency to become a workaholic, eating disorders, being terrified at a loss of control, and anxiety.
How can we balance our 1st chakra?
You can balance the first chakra by having relaxed walks in nature, walking bare feet, listening to grounding music, practicing simple yoga positions such as child pose, forward bend, mountain pose, squat and warrior, and eating ground food such as root vegetables or sweet potatoes.
Try as well the simple meditation of envisioning a bright red color at the end of your tailbone for 20 minutes every day while sitting quietly in a place no one can disturb you.
Affirmations such as I am centered and whole, I trust the wisdom of life, I am grounded, I have everything I need, I am safe and secure, I am strong, stable, and at peace are very powerful in balancing the first chakra.
Last but not least, take time to explore the root of your fears by discussing with a trusted friend, partner or therapist and practice daily mindfulness. Bring awareness into everything you are doing, slow down and take moments to simply follow your breath, enjoying the flow of air through in and out of your lungs.
Trust life. Trust the existence takes care of everything. You are tremendously loved.
